The Dutch Oven!

The classic open fire cooking object is the Dutch Oven: a large cast iron pan on three legs, which you can place on coals. The oven has been used since the seventh century, but has proven itself as a timeless and indispensable attribute for outdoor cooking. The oven is said to have got its name because Dutch merchants sold the oven to people at the door. Dutch settlers who lived in America used the oven regularly. The oven was soon sold among Americans, since the Dutch Oven offered the opportunity to cook tasty under primitive conditions.
