Tips for assembly and installation:

Installation manual: You can download the installation manual by clicking the link just below the technical drawing on the top of this page.

Landing boards should be installed evenly with a consistent spacing between them.

  • Wood is a natural material that reacts to changes in temperature and humidity and may shrink in dry conditions or expand in moist environments.
  • The spacing between the boards allows the wood to move freely, especially when installed while still moist.
  • For detailed information on railing positions and dimensions, please refer to the technical drawing above.
  • For installation guidance, consult the assembly manual supplied with this wooden outdoor staircase.

Tools required for installation:

  • Electric screwdriver / drill
  • wooddril Ø6mm with a minimum usable length of 150mm
  • Screw bits Torx TX20 + TX40
  • Hammer
  • some F-clamps are handy, especially when you do the installation alone.

FAQ Milano outdoor stairs

❓Where do I find the assembly manual for the MILANO outdoor stairs?

The installation manual can be found under the technical drawing at the top of each product page.
It is best to navigate to the Milano web page, scroll down, and you will find the link under the technical drawing, where you can find the latest version.

❓In what lengths is the MILANO outdoor landing available?

The MILANO outdoor staircase with landing is available in two landing lengths, allowing you to choose the configuration that best suits your entrance, terrace or outdoor space.

Short landing:

  • Landing length: 87 cm (dimension G)
  • Plus highest tread: 29 cm
  • Total length: 116 cm

Long landing

  • Landing length: 160 cm (dimension G)
  • Plus highest tread: 29 cm
  • Total length: 189 cm

❗Important installation information
The highest stair tread is always at the same height as the landing, ensuring:

  • a safe and comfortable transition
  • a stable access to your front door or terrace

This design is standard for the MILANO outdoor wooden staircase and guarantees optimal ease of use.

???? Which landing length should I choose?

  • For a standard house entrance
Most front doors have an average width of 100 cm.
???? The short landing (116 cm) is therefore perfectly suitable for direct access in front of your house door.
  • For extra comfort and space
The long landing (189 cm) offers additional room, ideal for:
    • placing plants or decoration
    • temporarily putting down shopping bags or packages
    • creating a more comfortable outdoor entrance area

???? Need a visual reference?

Please refer to the technical drawing to clearly understand the landing dimensions and configuration options of the MILANO outdoor staircase with landing.

❓Should the MILANO outdoor staircase be fixed to the floor or wall?

The MILANO outdoor staircase with landing features a solid, self-supporting wooden structure that offers excellent stability under normal use.

However, for maximum safety and long-term durability, it is strongly recommended to:

  • Fix the staircase to the floor, and
  • Secure it to the wall or façade, whenever possible.

Why is fixing the staircase recommended?

Proper fixation helps to:

  • prevent movement or sliding over time
  • avoid tipping or instability, especially when:
    • people lean on the railings
    • children climb or play near the staircase
  • increase overall safety and comfort

Fixing the staircase also contributes to a longer lifespan and improved resistance to daily use and weather conditions.

⚠️ Important note

Floor and wall fixings are not included, as the required anchors depend on the type of surface (concrete, wood, stone, etc.).
Always use appropriate fixings suitable for your installation surface or consult a professional installer if needed.

❓What different handrails are available for the Milano?

We propose 7 different railing options for the Milano outdoor stairs with landing.

Please find here an image of all different railing opportunities: "image  with opportunities"

We use a railing codification to specify exactly how the railings are placed.
For the Milano 3 to 8 steps, there are 7 different options.

Imagine that you are in front of the outdoor stairscase with landing, you should imagine these codes clockwise:

  • L = railing on the Left
  • E = railing on the End (rear)
  • R = railing on the Right
  • O = Open

If you see the railing code: LOERR, it means:

  1. L = railing on the left of the stairs
  2. O = the Left side of the landing is open
  3. E = railing on the End / Rear of the landing
  4. R = railing on the Right of the landing
  5. R = railing on the Right of the stairs.

The railing codes for Milano stairs higher then 8 steps (coming soon!) are more complex, we will explain them later.

❓What is the angle of inclination of the Milano outdoor staircase?

The angle of inclination of the Milano outdoor staircase is 34.2°.
Each step has a rise (step height) of 17 cm, providing a comfortable and safe walking angle for outdoor use.
